Dejima Optical Films’ Twistar™ retarder provides a unique temperature-matched compensation for STN LCDs, the so-called ‘T-Match’ effect.
Twistar™ retarders are based on a side-chain LC polymer, which is coated on a plastic substrate. The result is a thin, lightweight and stable retarder. One single retarder is sufficient for optimum compensation.
In contrast to polycarbonate or polysulphone based retarders, the temperature dependence of the birefringence of the Twistar™ retarder is similar to that of the LC mixtures used in STN displays. This provides an optimal compensation over a broad temperature range, resulting in improved performance of the STN display in terms of contrast and prevention of color shift.
